 What do our Governors do?

Our Governors are a very important set of volunteers who meet to discuss important issues about the school. They behave like a board of directors.

Governors.............

    • Meet at least 6 times a year and sometimes more.
    • They are involved in appointing staff and review the performance of the Head Teacher annually.
    • They agree a budget plan.
    • They agree academic targets and ask questions about standards in the school.
    • They ask for lots of reports from the staff and Head Teacher.
    • They respond to letters.
    • They make decisions about holiday patterns.
    • Agree the number of staff we have.
    • They agree improvements to the building.
    • They listen and respond to pupils, staff and parents.
    • They come into school when they can, to get to know what goes on.
    • They celebrate success and challenge the staff when things don't always go well.
    • They are responsible for the health and wellbeing of the staff.
    • They delegate the responsibility for pupil health and safety to the Head Teacher.

Every school has a Governing Body to represent the public in the running of schools. School Governors bring perspectives from ordinary life and work with the staff and the Local Authority (LA) to help secure the best possible education for the children in the school. They have important responsibilities like managing the school budget, overseeing the curriculum and appointing staff.
